EXCLUSIVE Q&A with The Faces Of Cooper St Curvy
Georgia Gibbs and Kate Wasley from Anybody Co
You both have beautiful yet different body shapes, what do you look for when shopping for the perfect dress?
G - I personally look for something statement, I prefer something fitted unless it's a free flowing maxi for cocktail events and definitely something that's fitted in the waist and a good earthy tone usually!
K - I look for something that I'm comfortable in that also looks great! I love dresses that show off my waist shoulders.
Cooper St’s new curvy range celebrates the diversity of women’s bodies. What is your favourite piece in the range?
G - Kate and I both adored the range, my personal favourite was the dress with cold shoulder cut out and frill detail, it came in a few styles and suited both of us great!
K - I absolutely love that Cooper St is extending its size ranges! I hope other brands follow in your foot steps! My favourite was the navy dress with the ties on the shoulders (not sure what it's called) but they were all gorgeous!!
How do you stay fit and healthy together?
G - We both love being outdoors, long power walks are a favourite as well as a good healthy brunch date of eggs and avo or acai bowls! My personal favourite exercise is Pilates but I also like to keep my mind healthy and being outdoors does that for me!
K - Walking and gyming together mostly! It's easy to find motivation when you have a buddy doing it with you :)
You have a really strong social media presence, and obviously that comes with its own drawbacks. I know you have been accused of photoshopping your images earlier this year. How do you stop yourself from being affected by what people are saying about you online?
G - I think Kate is better than me, she handles it really well, I'm learning to let it wash over me but I definitely can get sensitive to it sometimes. I've learnt to focus on the good comments and delete any others!
K - Yes! That's actually how any body came about! There was a lot of speculation that an image had been photoshopped to make one of us look worse in order to make the other one look better... which is pretty funny when you think about it! Like, what kind of friend would do that!? I deal with online hate by number 1 flat out ignoring it! And number 2 I tell myself that they don't know me or what I do so their opinion genuinely doesn't matter to me
What was the inspiration behind Any Body Co?
G - I know as a little girl I first saw body positive imagery in a Dove campaign in the UK, it was a commercial about body confident women, I spent a lot of teenage years with personal battles with confidence and stylist Gok Wan always inspired me too and now people like Ashley Graham really inspire me to push for diversity in advertising, social media and the world in general.
K - As I mentioned above, a photo of G and I was reposted on a Instagram page with a notable amount of followers and people were quick to notice our size difference (genius) and from there we decided to push the message that any body is beautiful and because people weren't used to seeing two girls of different sizes next to each other we realised there was a diversity gap in the advertising market that needed to be addressed.
If there is one piece of advice you could offer younger girls today about body image, what would it be?
G - Quit the comparisons, be confident in your skin and don't get sucked into social media, be you and be proud.
K - To keep in mind that what you see on social media isn't always truth. Not to compare yourself to anyone else. You're worthy of love and can accomplish great things regardless of your size. Those who mind what size you are don't matter and those who matter don't mind
How did you girls meet?
G - In Perth! WA girls!
K - We met each other about 5 years ago through mutual friends briefly in Perth but it wasn't until I moved to Sydney at the start of 2016 to peruse modelling that Georgia and I really connected as she introduced me to all her beautiful girl friends and we all just clicked so well!
What made you want to be involved in the Cooper St Curvy launch?
G - I've always been a big fan of the brand and have shopped it in Myer for a while so extending the size range so Kate and I can shop together really meant a lot to me because I know the effect that will have on other women and their friends too!
K - I'm always supportive of brands that are inclusive of a wide range of sizes, Cooper St has such gorgeous pieces so what's not to be excited about!
What does it mean to you to be able to shop the same brand in a wider range of sizes?
G - It means we can find a one stop shop if we are going out together and it means Kate doesn't have to follow me around Vice Versa at stores we both can't shop at, it brings the fun back into shopping and actually makes us want to not just shop online.
K - Its great that you create the same pieces in a wider range of sizes. For me that's a big deal when shopping. All too often I see something I love that stops at a size 12, it's no secret that woman above a size 12 love to show off their curves and wear the same styles as women size 12 and below :)
What’s next on the cards for Any Body Co?
G - I'm currently working on a project in high schools, events hosting Q&A's about body image, confidence and women in business! We also have some really exciting news we can't share just yet..
K - To continue inspire girls fully showing them the beauty comes in many shapes and sizes and to not compare yourself it anybody else :)
